i don’t think i’ve ever talked about this on this blog – despite the fact that it’s only a month old/calm down tatiana – about pencils and how awesome they are. my last “perks of – “ was well received and i figured why not continue on this type of thing.
pencils – we’re obviously talking about makeup pencils, from eyeliner to eye shadow to lipstick to blush and highlight. pencils and makeup are starting to go hand in hand, i’m sure it’s not a trend thing that will go away anytime soon either.
so what’s the perk of makeup pencils? efficiency and ease; i do love liquid lipsticks, but the precision i get from a lip pencil is unbeatable. i love eye shadow pencils (crème eye shadow in a more solid form) for quick on the go looks – be aware if you have oily lids you should prime and sadly you may even have to set it with a powder eye shadow or setting powder. i’m still looking for “that blush” in stick form but it seems they’re mostly of a muted pink color and i’m not the biggest fan of those colors.
the little collection i have doesn’t even begin to explain the magnitude – going all the way extra af on this one – of how many makeup pencil products there are. nudestix are possibly the brand to beat when it comes to the pencil/stick/crayons sector. they have everything – highlighters, concealer, brow pencils, lip pencils, bronzing, contour, cheeks – seriously the list is endless. i have a few of their products on my wish list, but when this damn spring limited edition craze finally calms down i plan on adding them to my collection – especially since i don’t really like summer limited edition products.
once again – jesus why can i never stay on topic – why pencils, if you’re a beginner or just someone who wants quick and to the point, then pencils are for you! i personally love concealer pencils – i’m on a little break from them but will return come fall and breakout time as the heat makes them melt here in az. i think i mostly have eye pencils – but once again that has also slowed now – eye brow pencils can help you not overdo it as much as a pomade could, and a contour pencil helps you will precision as well as usually having amazing bendability. if you want to color correct in specific places there are pencils for that. for both contouring and color correcting pencils i suggest smashbox’s step-by-step contour sticks and their color correcting sticks.
in terms of eye shadow – while it’s hard to find a matte eye stick – you can create an eye look with one or two sticks blend them in with your fingers and call it a day. that’s usually what i do and it achieves two things! 1. prevent the dehydration from your eyes that powder eye shadow can do if you don’t use an eye cream and 2. cut down on the work of blend, new color, rub, crease, etc. that you do with a powder shadow (don’t get me wrong i love powder eye shadow, but i also love options).
if you looking for a lip stick – bite beauty and colourpop are the business. bite beauty is made from all natural ingredients and has probably the creamiest texture you’ll ever find in a lip product. they also now have actual lip pencils – the traditional kind – that you can line your lips with. here pictured are their lip crayons that i just repurchased – they had these beauties during the holiday season and i finished three of four of them – give you three guesses which one is still unused – when i saw that they were still for sale i bought another one.
colourpop also as stated above have amazing lippie stix – their liquid lipsticks are a love/hate relationship with most people. i do find them to be a bit on the messy side but the dry down is gorgeous and it doesn’t dry my lips as much as others – but their lippie stix are a completely different animal. they also dry down to the best matte finish, but the drying factor – to me – is nowhere near as bad. it also – once again for me – takes a while to use up. i have so many lipsticks that i feel like i don’t use all of them up enough – these colourpop lippie stix are about a year old, but they still get the job done! – god i’m so gross –
next topic – the highlight!!!! – i’ve fell in love with cream highlight ever since my cargo stick – i’m telling you it’s my – gulp – ride or die highlight now
i hate that term but i got this clinique highlight chubby stick as a 100 point purchase and it also gets the job done – this is more of a highlight sheen as opposed to the glossy sheen the cargo stick give me, but i still like it more than i thought i would. i continuously have to remind myself to use my powder highlights and still i think nah, i’ll just use the cream one
on to a more negative critic – i don’t like drugstore eye pencils, i have all of mine from n.y.x one of the few drugstores brands that i actually like – but while their jumbo black pencil is amazing, their other eye pencils are simply too light in color payoff and full of glitter, it’s not of the same standards as my the balm eye pencils or my jouer eye crayons and eye liners, i can’t think of a drugstore brand that has a good eye shadow stick product.
i don’t know if this was a real post or if i even conveyed what i was trying to say. it seems it went a bit rambly – and for that i apologize to the depths of my heat….if i had one. per usual i hope you all enjoyed this post or at least the pictures! thanks for reading and good days (or nights) to you all!
