happy monday everyone! i thought since i haven’t really done a my weekly makeup since the first week, i’d update you all on my current makeup – basically my lazy makeup. i’ve been choosing sleep over doing every little neurotic step i usually do and it’s forced me to make some real life decisions when it comes to what i’m going to put on my face (that’s sarcasm btw).
inside my makeup bag are usually my everyday makeup essentials – foundation, concealer, eye brow pencil and gel, beauty sponge, setting powder, contour kit (which is nearing it discard date) and my primers – usually when i’m going to do my makeup i’ll choose a blush and eye shadow palette at that moment or the night before because i’m crazy like that – but also in my makeup bag are two mini palettes (my viseart petite pro palette and my mac semi sweet times nine palette) as well as my e.l.f. blush kit – these are blushes and eye shadow palettes i already know the eye look and cheek colors i’ll go with a cut down on time.
so what is my lazy day routine – well inside my bag which is charlotte tilbury because i’m boughetto to the core – i do the most with the bare minimum like most lazy people but still because i am basically incapable of doing my makeup in 10 minutes like some. i know for a fact it can take me 20 minutes since i’m blind as a bat and need to constantly look into the zoom mirror since i can’t wear my glasses. (back to the bag!!!) i have all my makeup except palettes in there. i’m not your typical makeup lover where i have 500 foundations, this many contour kits and concealers. in some regards i have restraint – i only have one of each which leads me to knowing my routine and timing that much easier.
the keys to (lazy makeup) success
how to cut down on time – well what do you need to absolutely do and what can wait? – i have pretty okay eye brows so i’ll just use some eye brow gel only and negate the pencil, i only conceal underneath my eye and use a highlight stick as a liquid would take too much time to tap in and can lift your foundation if you rush and a powder could make you look too “glow to the gods” or too powdery. i also sometimes leave out blush and use the “bronzer” in my contour kit in my blush area (which is usually my bronzer area) as well as leaving out lipstick. it takes me some time to get my liquid lipstick perfect and i feel lazy at the beginning of the day so reapplying is already looking shady.
things i can’t do without – eye shadow and contour. i was one of those people that always thought contour didn’t do anything and now i think it does, but only if you already have the cheek structure. in my humble opinion if you have chunky cheeks (which i’m always jealous of) the likelihood of contour really helping to slim down your face is slim to none, but i also understand the fact that foundation can hide up the natural shadows of your face and if you contour to bring that back in then no matter the face shape contour is necessary. i also love doing my eye shadow and since it’s the longest thing in makeup i’ve been doing i feel confident in myself to get it done quick.
limit your options – if you use a regular sized or fairly large eye shadow palettes or try to choose between multiple blushes it’s going to take too much time. i love using smaller more travel friendly eye shadow palettes that limit your options on the colors and look you can do simultaneously cutting your time and giving you at least some options. i also feel the same way about blush – if you use blush palettes or you have a shit ton then use the color you use the most and is the most neutral. i know the three colors and how many taps into the colors i need to do to get the achieved look i want when using my e.l.f palette, in my other blushes i usually judge afterwards. if i’m feeling lazy or strapped for time i go to the “i can do this with my eyes closed” option.
know your brushes – this use to be my major time fuck up forgive my french but choosing a brush on either the face, cheeks or eyes i’d scramble. now i have a system and i know automatically which brush i prefer and using those brushes only to get the job done. i use a flat full eye brush and a tapered blending brush for the eyes, that’s it, i use a simple blush brush for both contour and blush and a buffering brush for my foundation and then i use a beauty sponge – using a beauty sponge on its own can be time consuming – using a brush and then finishing off the job with the beauty sponge can save you some time despite it being an extra step.
know your steps – this one is essential, i know that before anything else i prime – i can’t give it up. if i must use just one primer i’ll use my all in one algenist primer and call it a day, but if nothing else i prime. in terms of my foundation, i love the foundation i have now, it sets and doesn’t smudge when i touch my face, but because i live in the desert it can be a bit drying, it also doesn’t have a pump which means i have to spill it out, so when i spill it out i use some of my josie maran argan oil to add some moisture to it. it’s another step i know i have to do so i plan it accordingly. then there’s setting your entire face – once again i set my under eyes with a powder usually, but if i’m strapped for time i’ll leave it be since i don’t really crease, i simply use my urban decay all-nighter setting spray (which is also almost done and i don’t think i’ll be repurchasing).
so this is how i do a lazy makeup day – it sounds like a lot but i’ve been doing this for a year so it’s not foreign to me and i know my steps and the time allotting it to be done right. i can’t lie and say i know the perfect ten minute routine. i don’t think my skin is there yet and i don’t even believe it only takes 10 minutes when i see it on videos. this takes me 30 minutes maybe, but once again i’m kind of sluggish in movement and i can’t see without my glasses. these are things i allot the extra time for, and if need be and i don’t have the time, since i don’t know how to do it in under this amount i’ll just go bare face – i figured i should be honest with you about that at least. per usual i hope you all enjoyed this post or at least the pictures! thanks for reading and good days (or nights) to you all!
