hey everyone! some of you may or may not have noticed that last friday i didn’t have a blogpost but this friday i do – well i have a full time job and while getting blogpost done in a timely fashion is something i think i do well – i think doing blogpost every monday, wednesday and every other friday will be a bit better for me. i think i tend to underestimate running this blog, another blog and working full time. just a bit of a heads up and now back to regular programming……
i am a creature of habit, once i find a brand i like i usually stick with it and that certain product that led me to the brand – lorac for eye shadow, becca for highlight and blush, colourpop for lipstick, sigma for brushes – that’s not to say i don’t try other products from other brands, but i’m more likely to try something new from becca than from too faced (since i own nothing too faced, but tons of things becca).
i thought it was time that i break up that habit and try something new. i opted to go even higher in terms of brand for my foundation, try some drugstore other than nyx and e.l.f., got an odd color lipstick, tried a new primer and of course! eye shadow palettes.
i’ve wanted a grey lipstick for some time now, and i thought that getting mac’s stone would be the one i got – i still plan on getting it – but completely out of nowhere i’ve gotten this sudden urge to really explore the smashbox brand. i can’t put my finger on why but in the span of a week i bought three eye shadow palettes and a lipstick from a brand i had only bought a contour palette from nearly a year ago.
the cover shot palette is basically the essential on-the-go palette; it helps you create a look from one entire palette without needing to also wonder how to get the eye look done. i think these types of palettes are first of all great for beginners and awesome for travel – that’s not to say i won’t use it at home – i damn well plan on it, but it has so many other functional uses. i usually stick to lorac, especially the lorac pro 1 – but i do have a the balm palette that’s okay, and an anastasia beverly hills palette, but i usually use lorac, so this is an interesting turn of events! I got the palettes in ablaze and matte.
also speaking of eye shadow, i went to mac a place i don’t usually enter – no particular reason why, i went in once with a gift card, the customer service wasn’t very friendly and i got my two lipsticks and left. i don’t hold anything against it since i know everyone has an off day and not every store is like the one i went to, but needless to say i just haven’t been back. i did however, explore the eye shadow area of mac and opted to order the new semi sweet palette, but from nordstrom’s instead.
once again its travel size – trust me it’s small – and the colors are everyday colors anyone of any ethnicity or skin color can wear – i love it! and it’s gotten me back on a positive perception of mac. i doubt i’ll go mac crazy but i don’t mind exploring the brand more. i also went to target saw two maybelline eye shadows that seemed nice and snatched them up in the colors Teal the Deal and Made for Mocha. they’re not the quality i’m used to but since they were only $3 each i’m not heart broken.
i have one more eye shadow to talk about, but let’s break it up a bit! the face! i’m no longer on the lookout for a new foundation – i only have had one love but i don’t want to just stick to one thing – i’m currently trying out estee lauder’s double wear all day foundation. it’s a nice buildable medium to full coverage foundation and right now my skin is amazing!!!! so it’s doing a nice job and even my acne scars aren’t as noticeable. you do have to work quickly with this foundation though – it sets quickly! which is why i’m guessing it last all day, it’s also managed to work out even in the heat here in the desert spring/summer.
i think this is a great foundation as it doesn’t feel like it’s sitting on my skin and does everything it said it would on the packaging. it’s still not my becca full coverage foundation – that’s more of a winter time foundation, but it’s doing an amazing job as i’ve finally stopped googling what foundations were “arizona proof”.
i also got a new primer – i’ve recently been moisturizing like a beast! which is also why my skin is really good right now, and when i was in sephora looking for a foundation that would cover my acne spots, the nice woman there also suggested color correcting. it’s not the first time it’s been suggested to me, but i’m too lazy to do the color correcting you see on youtube. she suggested the algenist reveal color correcting radiant primer as it’s a hydrating primer that has all four color correcting agencies and all you have to do is rub it on your face. my type of primer! it’s also a skincare line, so i trust it a bit more.
you don’t need too much primer, just a pea size, but i still use my clinique pep start hydroblur primer before and this on top of it and depending on the weather, the becca ever-matte poreless primer on my t-zone. this primer fits right in in my primer family!
let’s go back to the eyes before we finish off with the lips – that sounded weird but whatever – i also dabbled in make up for ever. while i was picking up their hd stick foundation – it did not work out and was returned! – i had swatched their artist eye shadow 4 palette, the blue is what got me. pictures didn’t do it justice and neither do these! it also affords you the chance to create three different types of easy looks – each three shadows vertically can be used to create different looks.
finally lips – i’m not a red person and i’m not a grey person either. one was a 100 point purchase and the other was a $24 dollar purchase that got me 24 points (see what i did there). the stila stay all day liquid lipstick in beso which is the red color. it’s not an orange red or a pink red or even a brown red it’s strictly red. i’ve never owned a completely red lipstick as i do tend to gravitated to the more brown/black reds, but this was a nice departure in terms of color and a great introduction to a brand i’ve never used before.
it does for sure stay all day and i had to moisturize my lips a bit – but i do have dry lips – and the color does stay on even afterwards a bit. i did a lip scrub and all was good. now onto chill zone from smashbox, ever since i found out i was cool toned i don’t know why but grey is the color i’ve been experimenting with the most. i did a grey eye look this past week for work and it was amazing and then i bought a grey liquid lipstick – this isn’t a true grey, but more of a muted mauve grey that doesn’t make me look ashy. this however is not a work appropriate color at my office as i will probably just wear it when hanging out with friends and in an out of a work environment. it does take a little bit of time to dry down to a complete matte and in my personal opinion the color does oxidize a bit, but i like that as well.
well that’s “all” i bought! i do think i will continue to experiment with different brands and colors i don’t normally work with. it was a nice departure and since it was a successful adventure i don’t think i’ll stop anytime soon. per usual i hope you all enjoyed this post or at least the pictures! thanks for reading and good days (or nights) to you all! products mentioned listed below:
